Shadow Board
Shadow Board is a multi-player strategy door game for bulletin board systems in which players become virtual sysops, running simulated bulletin boards.
Shadow Board is one of several meta-BBS games in which users get a chance to experience what it's like to be a sysop. At the main menu, players can watch as AI callers log in and use their virtual boards, much the same way a real sysop might monitor activity on her BBS.
Players try attract callers to their BBSes by upgrading their system and answering emails. When answering messages, players are given several possible replies from which to choose. The system's statistics can increase or decrease, depending on the user's choice.
The game also gives players a chance to "work on" their BBS. This option causes them to deal with random maintenance issues which result in changes to money, number of calls, charm level, or other statistics.
Shadow Board is multi-player, so players compete against one another to build the best BBS. Players can sabotage each other's BBSes by various covert actions.
Shadow Board was created in 1995 by Jerry Woody of WoodyWare.
