Meet: Mike Fergione of The Hole in the Wall BBS, otherwise known as: Bandit It is with great pleasure that Mike is the FEATURED sysop this month as Mike was one of Door World's very first subscribers (2nd to be exact)! Door World extends to him continued success to he and his system... Editor Questionnaire: Name: __Mike Fergione a.k.a. Bandit____________ Address: __6325 N. Ponderosa Way________________ __Parker, Colorado 80134______________ BBS Name: __The Hole In The Wall_______________ BBS Number: __(303) 841-5515___________________ Door Author and/or BBS Sysop? __BBS SysOp_________ Biographical information regarding yourself: I'm a 46 year old computer junkie, thoroughly addicted to online games, and VGA Planets in particular. I've been running a BBS for 5 years. I'm married and have a 4-1/2 year old monster for a son...which is why I'm so addicted to online games. They're the only things that separate me from that sometimes intricate boundary of sanity and insanity. If you run a BBS what type of system are you running: Tell about it. How long have you been running a BBS? Have you tried others? Found some you liked? disliked? why? If you have an ANSI screen send it along as well. I've tried a couple of different boards. I cut my teeth on MegaHost some years ago. Tried Telegard, SuperBBS, Remote Access (which I ran for two years), and a few others, and then switched over to Renegade. I like Renegade for it's simplicity, it's configurability, it's support programs, it's compatibility, and the programmability it offers. Comments as to the future of BBSes and Doors as you see it. I think we're going to go through this Internet thing for a while, and sooner or later, people will tire of the madness of it all. Somewhat less than 6% of the population claims to be an Internet surfer of some type, and there's already an overwhelming amount of evidence of a total non-sensical atmosphere about it all. Can you imagine what it's going to be like when it gets to 10% of the population? 15%? There will ALWAYS be a place for a down-home, friendly place to visit and interact with people you know. Sort of like visiting a small town after being caught up in the big city life for a while. BBS's and Doors offer that "rural atmosphere" people crave. That is simply not available on the Internet. I've joined and left the Internet scene so many times, I've lost count. I'm more discouraged with it every time I "re-join" it, and I seriously doubt I'm unique. It can be a fun place to visit and waste away an hour or so on. But when it comes to some serious game playing or discussions amongst friends, there is only one place a person can go to find it. Your favorite BBS. I expect BBS's to drop out of favor for a while (we've ALL noticed a decrease in users), but there is still enough interest being generated that I believe they will survive just fine. People need a place to go to relax, have fun, play games, and meet with friends. Familiarity is a BBS's best asset, and it's something the Internet, by it's nature, cannot provide. Thanks in advance for your time......... You're entirely welcome...and thank you (belatedly) for all of the time you and Dave have spent bringing us such a superb online magazine!! þ
