ABOUT THE GAME: The idea is to 'PUSH' for points. Each time you push, you have a chance of gaining points, or being TERMINATED! If you are terminated, you receive 0 points for the day. Each time you push, the range for which you receive points increases, BUT SO DOES YOUR CHANCE OF BEING TERMINATED! How far will you PUSH YOUR LUCK? Will you stop in time, or will you push your luck too far? Time will tell... NEW IN 1.00: Added the ability to pass a parameter to specify name for config file. Added a small sysop menu for registered versions. You can no longer be terminated on your very first push. The bonus was reduced from 2500 to 1000, as it seemed to be too much. This version has been specifically written to work on Pc Board systems. The game features a simple to use interface with support for RIPScrip 1.54, users will need a RipScrip 1.54 compatible communications program to play. Marble Guess was written to demonstrate what is possible by using PPLC (Pc Board compiler) and our RipScrip development tools, JDraw and JMedia. The game uses several techniques that can be used when creating other games. The entire source code is also included so that others who are interested in developing products with RipScrip can take a look and see how Marble Guess was done. All the RipScrip files are also included and can be changed very easily to give Marble Guess and entirely different look. The original game was written in Turbo Pascal using the 320x200x256 mode and Deluxe Paint to create the graphics. It took roughly a week to complete. The Pc Board version was written in PPLC and uses the default 640x350x16 RipScrip 1.54 mode. The RipScrip graphics were created entirely with JDraw. Several key features were used such as the "What you see is what you get" button designer, the Wizards feature was used to create the pop-up menus, and using the object editing mode allowed several things to be done much faster. Using a competing editor such as Ripaint 1.54 would have taken several hours longer to create the exact same graphics. JMedia was also used to edit a few things in the RIP files. Most involved just changing a few things in the mouse regions and button commands. This could have been done is JDraw as well but the process was so much faster using JMedia. The time period to complete Marble Guess for Pc Board was three days. Most of that time was spent testing and discovering a bug in the PPLC compiler, actually a bug in Pc Board that causes the random function not to work properly. The file can be downloaded from Salt Air BBS, home of Pc Board. The file is also available from Baudeville BBS (416) 283-0114 to first time callers, filename is MGPPE10.ZIP. Evaluation versions of JDraw and JMedia are also available, filenames for those files are JDL21.ZIP and JMEDIA11.ZIP. Bullentin 17 also contains a number of other RIP related programs that may also be of some interest. This version fixes that pesky transient duplication/deletion of players bug. I've added several new features and a created a totally new SysOp utility program (which takes the place of the SYSOP MENU). Below is a listing of the new/changed features: What's New in Cop Squad v.1.30 ------------------------------- * Transient occurrence of duplicating and/or deleting players *HAS* been fixed. 99.9% of those who advised they were having problems have found that it no longer occurs. * Removed the SysOp menu items and put the items in a separate executable file called COPUTILS.EXE . * Added a SETUP module in the utility program. It will make the setup of the configuration file a snap (whether single or multi-node). * Changed the record structure for the player editor with regard to the player data file. This is what fixed the dupes/deletion problem in the player.dat file. * Removed the physical purging routine for the player.dat file. Now, in the daily maintenance a player's record will be marked as "DELETED" if they have not played in the time specified in the configuration file (line 8). If they are marked as deleted they will be unable to play under their old record and will be re-written (over their old record) as a new player. Any new players will overwrite the record of a deleted player, thus eliminating the need to copy, purge and rename the data file every day. * Added a "TWIT" feature in the Deluxe registered version. Item #5 in the Player Editor will allow you to specify any player as a "TWIT". If they are designated as a TWIT they will tossed out of the game the second they select [P]lay the Game from the Main Menu. They WILL NOT be overwritten by new players (even if they are marked as "Deleted") and their name will not appear in any of the scoreboards or bulletins. * By creating a separate file for the utility procedures, it allow for "dual sysop" situations (i.e., husband & wife) where previously only the sysop shown in the .cfg file could access the SYSOP MENU and the player editor, etc. Requested by Scott and Cindy Ramer long ago and finally was able to add it because of the separate utility program. * Added the ability to GET EQUIPMENT or RETURN EQUIPMENT to your locker. * Added the ability to file a complaint against your fellow officers. They will receive a message that you filed the complaint against them and both you and the other player will be affected by the complaint. If the complaint is Sustained, you will receive points and the other player will lose the same amount of points. If the complaint is Not Sustained, Unfounded or Exonerated you will lose the points and then player you complained about will receive the points. The officer filing the complaint will receive a message as to the status of the complaint immediately after filing it. This should prove to be an interesting aspect to the game!! * Added special runtime error handling and exit procedures. You will now have more information about an error when it occurs and you might be able to solve the problem without leaving a mesage for tech support. * Added two error logs. COP_ERR.LOG will record any errors when COP SQUAD is running. UTIL_ERR.LOG will record any errors when COPUTILS.EXE is running. These files combined with the runtime error handling will help to isolate any problems. * Fixed a minor bug which would allow a player to wait until the game timed out if he/she wasn't doing well and not record their statistics. Now the stats are written to the data file before the player sees the results of their selection/action anywhere in the game. * Added multi-node capability to the Player Editor (if Level 2 registered). ------------------------------ COP SQUAD v.1.30 can be file requested from 1:369/101 using the magic name of SQUAD. Tell me what you think of it! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This a Story of A person Who Was Wondering In The World Of LORD. He Walks Deep Into The Forest trying To Find Something To Kill When He Gets Lost In The Moogle Village ______________________________________________________________________________ You were wondering in the forest one day trying to find something to kill when you find yourself in a part of the forest you have never seen before. It sounds different, look different, and it even smells different! You walk up to a sign. It says "Moogle Village" on it. You wonder... what is this Moogle Village that the sign told of? Curiousity finally gets to you and you walk into the village entrance. You see large drums outside of the largest hut and you see to big vats with something boiling inside of them. You see two smaller huts outside of the largest one. You walk into the hut on the left and to your surprise you see a little white and pink critter walking around the hut with a spear in his ... err.. paw? You question the person as to what his name is.. he replies gleeishly, "Kuman!" You assume his name is Kuman. You ask Kuman what he does here.. He says "Kupopo.. Kupo! I sell weapons!" and he points to a sign on his wall.. "Kuman's Spear Hut." You notice another sign on the left side of the wall next to a dozen or so spears. It reads the following -- 1)Rusty Spear 2)Short Spear 3)Steel Lance 4)Kefka's Spear 5)Long Spear 6)Magical Spear 7)Joust 8)Dragoon Sword 9)Mystical Spear 10)Feathered Spear 11)Thick Joust 12)Knight Spear 13)Ultima Weapon 14)Pearl Lance 15)Moogle Spear You also notice that the prices on these weapons are almost equal to those of the weapons that are sold in your village. You wonder on whether or not these are good buys or not.. Before purchasing anything you say to Kuman, "I am going to with my spouse before buying anything." He justs screams "Kupopopopopopopopopopop!" and shoos you out the door.. You walk out and go into the other little hut next to the big one. You walk in and see a bunch of fancy jewelry and pendants. Behind a couple of large crates you see another one of these white and pink creatures.. You assume they are called Moogles because of the village's name. You ask this one (who appears to be a little bit larger then the last one) "What is your name?" he (or she) responds with a witty grin and proceeds to say "Koporo." So you proceed to speak to the creature. "What do you sell here?" Koporo says, "I sell armour! Kupopo!" And he brings out a catalog full of armours and magical protection: 1)Whale Fat 2)Tiger Skin 3)Spiky Tiger Skin 4)Moogle Necklace 5)Magic Pendant 6)Gold Hairpin 7)Sasquatch Tooth 8)Kefka's Suit 9)Bodyguard 10)Mystic Forces 11)Kupo Ring 12)Feathered Suit 13)Zeromus Body 14)Gold Helm 15)Moogle Charm These prices, also, match those from your home town's shop. You tell Koporo that you will come back later to shop. You walk out the door and face in the direction of the larger middle hut with the drums outside of it. As you walk in you hear the sounds of drums bellowing from below you. As you look forward you see another one of these... moogles... only he is wearing a crown and keeping a large Pearl Lance at his side. You approach this moogle but before you can reach him you are caught looking at a picture on the left wall of what you think is a Sasquatch... A Snow Monster.. Your thought is broken by the sound of the moogle yelling "Kupo!" You look at the moogle and ask him the same thing you asked every other moogle, "Who is your name?" He looks insulted by your question but answers with "Kupo.. I am King Mog.. The ruler of this village... What business have you here?.. Kupopo!" You reply.. "I stumbled upon this village by accident.. I have many pieces of gold and am interested in what you have to sell" He nods and tells you to to go down stairs.. You are puzzled... There are no stairs.. To your surprise the behind the picture of the Sasquatch is a hole.. ----------------------Mines of Narshe Part 1---------------------------------- You jump into the hole and arrive in what you think is a series of dark caves.. you light a match to see what is going on and you walk into a left cooridoor.. You start to see a light.. You walk towards this light for what seems like forever but eventually you get there.. You are on a cliff covered with snow... After much looking around you find a man. He calls himself Lone Wolf. He says he knows a place where a treasure is hidden. He says for 50,000 GP he will take you there.. You decide to give him the money. He takes you along a railway under the ground.. Looks like there hasn't been a train over these trains for 100 years! After much walking you find yourself alone in a dark corner. Lone Wolf had tricked you out of your money! You struggle to get out. You look around and you see a part on the ground that looks odd colored.. You poke it with a stick and a door opens next to you! "That must have been one of those magical switches you read about in a book once" You say to yourself. You walk out the door and into another village.. This one not quite as colorful and it is snowing here tremendously! You walk into the village and ask someone whats this towns name.. He replies "Narshe, the name of the town is Narshe!." "Jeeze.. what a crappy customer" you think. You find a armor shop and a weapon shop.. You decide to enter the weapon shop first.. You walk up to the counter and inquire about weapons.. He points to a computer that looks like it is at the height of technology. He has a list of weapons to pick from.. the prices resemble both those in your home village and at the Moogle Village. 1)Mithril Blade 2)Rune Edge 3)Regal Cutlass 4)Metal Knuckle 5)Fire Knuckle 6)Cursed Sword 7)Paladin Sword 8)Knife Edge 9)Shurikans 10)Long Staff 11)Pearl Staff 12)Hybrid 13)Mithril Claw 14)Sword of Mana 15)Excalibur "Sorry" you say, "But these dont interest me right now, maybe I will come back later and buy something." And you walk out. You go over to the armor store to see what they have there. They to have a computer menuing system for there goods.. You go to look what they have. 1)Vest 2)Steel Helm 3)Power Bracelet 4)Spiky Suit 5)Bandanna 6)Magic Overalls 7)Guardian Helm 8)Long Shirt 9)High Tech Suit 10)Wooden Suit 11)Gold Helm 12)Diamond Armor 13)Kung Fu Suit 14)Steel Headguard 15)Ultima Helm You say Sorry like you say to everybody else and exit the store. You walk around a while until you see something you like. You see a chocobo stable! You pick up one of the birds and you go for a little joyride. You go to a little castle off to the south. --------------------------Journey To Figaro Castle Part 1--------------------- The entrance to the castle is very elegant and medieval. You walk in and as soon as you pass by the opening guards you get treated like a king! You do a little shopping and pick up a few new items at the weapon store: 1)Auto Crossbow 2)Noise Blaster 3)Bio Blaster 4)Drill 5)Air Anchor 6)Bomb 7)Hand Grenades 8)Buck Shot 9)Rifle 10)Double Barrel Gun 11)Sleeping Pills 12)Time Bombs 13)Tin Cans 14)Deminisher 15)Chainsaw You go in to see the king. He tells you that a military group led by Genral Leo, and Kefka is taking over the land. He thinks that they will strike Castle Figaro next. He tells you to watch out and he sends you to your room. You fall asleep still wearing your armour. During the night you are awoken by a young girl shaking you trying to wake you up. She tells you that kefka had set fire to the castle! You try your best not to panic but fear gets the best of you.. It appears you are dead but then King Edgar comes and saves you! He brings a flock of Chocobo and takes you away on them! Next stop. South Figaro! -----------------------Desert of Figaro Part 1-------------------------------- -----------------------Passage to South Figaro Part 1------------------------- After a long journey across the barren deserts of Figaro you arrive at another long and musty cave. You walk through seeing nothing of real interest. You kill a few monsters here and there and gain some expierence in the land of yore but that is about it. You finally arrive at what seems to be the end. There is a large spring with a turtle walking around inside. You are extremely thirsty so you take a sip. WoWzY ZowZy! That water must have been magic water because you feel 100% again! You quickly exit the cave and continue your trek to South Figaro. You find yourself at the gates to a wonderful town where it seems like nothing could go wrong. You go to see if the stores have anything new but they have nothing you couldn't get from Figaro Castle so you ignore them. You walk into a cafe to get a bite to eat and you see a dark charactor sitting by the bar. You ask the villagers about him and they all say he his bad news. He tells you to go away because he doesn't want any company and the dog eats strangers! You exit the cafe and go to read a sign on a post... It says that there is a man wrecking havoc in the village. His name is Vargas. He stole something from the town that is very precious. The king is offering a hefty reward of 100 gems if you bring back the treasure. He is supposed to be hiding out on Mt. Kolts. You think to yourself -- Hey! I could use those 100 gems to you make the trip out to the Mountains. --------------------------Mt. Kolts Part 1------------------------------------ You walk to the base of the mountain and you notice that there is a circular path spiralling up Mt. Kolts. You follow the path, killing whoever is in your way until you meet Vargas. He is a big man and attachs with a Mithril Claw. Ouch! He has some serious gear. It will take a few power attacks to kill this bastard! And thats exactly what you decide to do.. In no time at all Vargas lays dead at your feet. You search through his pockets until you find a little golden box with a lock on it. You could either keep the treasure or return it and get the 100 gems. You decide that the king probably needs it and it cant be much better than 100 gems! So you walk back to Figaro Castle. You go right to the King (using a trusty Warp Stone you got from killing a monster on Mt. Kolts.) And you give him the treasure. You have only one request besides the 100 gems.. You ask "May I see What was in the box?" He puts in the key and slowing opens the box. Wow! It is a fairy! You always thought they were just in stories and myths. But now you get to see one right up close! You have a story to tell your friends back in town now.
