It still won't be the interview with Rusty Johnson... he's been just as busy as I have and we have been unable to find a good time for both of us to sit down and talk. But I do have some good news... I will be talking about his 5 new doors. Yes, that's right, Rusty HAS been busy and not only fixed some of the bugs in the two doors that have been in beta testing for the last couple of months, but has also managed to put out 3 more. I'll talk about all 5 a little bit later in the article. So what's been keeping me busy? One BBSCON. Everything is now starting to come together, disk coping, paperwork, Rolaids, final information from the different authors, supplies, printing and a case of Tums. I fly down to Tampa on the 15th of August, meet my partner, Jim Smoot, look our booth over and start setting it up for the opening of the show on the 16th. If nothing else, one thing I have found out about One BBSCON... DON'T use their recommended airlines and hotels! It's amazing the difference in prices between arranging your own services to telling them that you are with One BBSCON. A good example is my airfare. I went through my local travel agent and had him book it for me. Price round trip from Portland, Oregon to Tampa, Florida was $384.00 through Northwest Airlines. I use to work for them and fly Northwest whenever I can, so I was happy they were the low fare. I called up Delta, the recommended airlines and by using the One, Inc. group number the cost was $505.00 round trip. Another example is hotel accommodations. Jim's wife made all the arrangements at a Quality Inn a few blocks from the convention center. If you said you wanted the One BBSCON rate, it was $89.00, if you took their regular rate it was $49.00. I don't know how much One, Inc. is getting in kickbacks, but it sure doesn't sound like they are hurting any. One, Inc. made the announcement that the show will be in San Fanscisco next year. It's not Oregon like I was hoping, but it's within driving distance... about 10 hours South of here. So I will be able to save a bundle on airfare and be able to carry a lot more... both to and from there. But that's next year, I have to get through this year first . Because of the time I'm spending doing all the prep work, I've not been able to work on my own doors very much. I still have a few things to do before I start coping the disks, but I haven't been able to add in the additions that I had hoped too. I hope to be able to do that after the show as well as get back working on the new doors that I have in the works. Ok, since you probably skipped my commentary above to hurry down here and hear about Rusty's doors, I'll quit stalling and get too them . JNS Software Doors by Rusty Johnson Rusty now has 24 doors to his name... and frankly, they are some of the best door games available for any BBS. The names of the previous 19 are: In-Between - Bet on the draw of the cards... will your card fall between the two dealt cards? Watch out for the Joker or you will loose 10 times your bet. File Request Name: NBETWEEN Two-Card Poker - Play two card poker with 3 computer players. The computer deals the hands and the human decides to stay or fold. File Request Name: TWO-CARD The Great White Card Game - Modeled after the classic Card Guppies... but with a twist. You play 5 rounds of 5 cards to win points. If you win enough you get to play the Super Round. You bet on the next card being higher or lower than the previous one. File Request Name: GREATWHT Amazing Memory - This is a Simon clone. This game will test the players ability to remember sequences of numbers. The game blinks the sequences and then it's the players turn to repeat them. File Request Name: AMAZING Quote Fall - This word game challenges the player to reconstruct a quote from the letters provided by dropping them down into the proper box. This is a great game for those that like playing with words. File Request Name: QUOTFALL The Puzzle Machine - Just like the classic game where you try to put the 15 numbers back in the proper sequence after they have been mixed up. File Request Name: PUZZLE Boxed Poker - The computer deals up the cards, one at a time and leaves it to the player to pick which square in a 5x5 grid to place them. The object is to build the 10 best hands in the grid. File Request Name: BOXPOKER Soli-Tree - This game is one of Rusty's all time most popular doors. You start at the bottom of a tree of cards and try to remove the cards by playing them by suit on the discard stack. You get a bonus for each level you complete. Like several of Rusty's games, this one will play in tournament mode... each player gets the exact same hand. A real test of skill. File Request Name: SOLITREE Golf Solitaire - This game is another one of Rusty's all time most popular doors. Try to remove the cards from each row by playing them on their home pile. This one also has tournament mode available. File Request Name: GOLF-ST Kings Last - One of those pure luck games, but still a lot of fun with kids and adults alike. The object is to flip cards until you have flipped all the Kings. Your score is based on how far you get. File Request Name: KINGLAST Trapper - A fast action game that has a little varment (RoAnn, that is the way Rusty spells varmint, so don't change it ;D) moving around different shaped grids. The object is to trap the varment by picking and removing blocks around him. File Request Name: TRAPPER Double SoliTree - Just like Soli-Tree, but with twice the fun (and aggravation ). Two decks are used instead of one, with an added bonus of 2 jokers that can be played if needed. File Request Name: DOUBLEST Five Card Draw Poker - Play 5 card draw against the computer dealer. The dealer can and does bluff... but you don't know when. One of my favorites. File Request Name: DRAWPOKE Yacht - This is a dice game modeled after the game with a similar name. Great for all ages. File Request Name: YACHT Treasure Trove - Another solitaire card game that requires thought and patience... one card played a different way could make the difference between a low score and a high one. File Request Name: TREASURE On The Edge - Place specific cards along the edge of a 4x4 grid board. Any unwanted cards can be removed in increments of 10. File Request Name: ONTHEDGE Press Your Luck - Another dice game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Roll 5 dice and if any match the two dice rolled by the computer they are taken out of play. How far will you "press your luck" and keep those dice rolling? File Request Name: PRESLUCK Match-Two - This game takes good betting sense as well as some guess work to match two cards. File Request Name: MATCHTWO Idiot's Delight - Don't let the name full you, it's not that simple of a card game. In tournament mode it takes skill to be the winner. File Request Name: IDELIGHT All of these are available from Rusty's board at 1:262/28 or from mine at the numbers above. See Rusty's new doors with Ansi in the Advertisement Section: Look for: Strikes and Spares Bomb Squad The Eliminator Slider Solitaire Three Shuffles and a Draw Well, that's it for now. I've got to get back to doing labels and brochures for the show. So, until next time. þ
